Mel, I'm so glad to see you around and drawing. I miss you, girl, you have no idea how much.
This piece is beautiful, very beautiful, but this time I can't help but see beyond the lines on behalf of the emotions. I have always loved the way you draw Hermione's eyes and this time is not exception. The sadness in them is so painful that I can feel her despair. The way she grabs his robe… Sorry, this is too powerful that I can’t just continue with a comment, so you know which is the next best thing…

The clock struck twelve. Midnight… it was time. Severus grabbed his cloak and walked hastily to the door, not wanting to look back at what he was leaving behind. Since Albus’ death, he knew the time for paying for his sins will come sooner of later. It was ironic that all the things he had done for the dark were forgotten, and that the hardest thing he had done in order to save the light would be most likely the one which will condemn him. He didn’t regret it, it was his duty and he had just done what was meant to happen. The only he regretted was what he was leaving in this house.
When he was reaching for the doorknob he was stopped by her voice.
“Severus?”
Damn it, she was supposed to be asleep after drinking her tea, he had added the Sleeping Draught himself. He inhaled deeply and closed his eyes not daring to look at her.
“Hermione, go back to sleep.”
“No. Where are you going? You’re not insisting in that nonsense of going to the Ministry, are you? Severus, you know what they’ll do, you won’t have the chance of defend yourself and they’ll lock you in Azkaban. We’re in the middle of a war, they act and make questions after, when the damage is done. We can keep with our plan, we can keep on helping Harry and the Order secretly, they don’t need to know who is giving me the information until the war is over.”
“You know that’s impossible, Potter is weaker every passing day and things have to be done. This war has lasted too many years and it’s time to end it, no matter the cost. You know they are not believing anymore in the word of a young woman who refuses to reveal her source of information, so it’s time for me to come from the shadows and face my fate.”
“Your fate is to stay with me. We’re together in this, Severus, and I won’t let you do this.”
Hermione was coming closer to him and he couldn’t help but turn around and see her. Gods, she looked beautiful even in that moment. She had hastily put her blue dress, and her hair was dishevelled falling over her shoulders in thick curls. He knew he shouldn’t have, but he looked at her eyes on the verge of tears and that was his undoing. He turned to embrace her tightly, giving in to emotions one last time.
“Hermione, you have to understand there are greater things than you and me in this world. I have a duty since you were a baby and I have to fulfil it, I owe it to the world I once helped to destroy. You don’t understand it now, but you will one day, when you live in a safe world free of threats.”
“No, all I understand is that you are walking to your death for the sake of a world that has turned its back to you. Stay with me, please…”
He wouldn’t take it any longer, he had to leave in that moment. He let her go from his embrace and turned again to leave.
“Goodbye, Hermione. Maybe we’ll see each other again.”
Hermione grabbed his shoulder desperately in a last attempt to keep him form leaving. “Please, don’t do this to me.”
Severus felt his anger rising inside him. He hated Voldemort for his war, he hated Potter for being so damn stubborn and refused to hear Hermione, he hated her for making things too difficult, and he hated himself for breaking the heart of the only woman he had loved. He pulled away from her brusquely, making her trip and almost fall, and walked away Disapparating in the shadows.
Hermione remained there, tears running freely down her cheeks, staring at the place in which he has seconds ago. He left her before she told him everything.
“Don’t go, Severus. I love you…”

Quite dramatic, isn’t it? But it’s still opened enough to leave space for hope. Well, you know I have like a gift with angst, but I’ll always prefer a happy ending, so I guess you need to draw now a companion piece for that ending. This was unbetaed, so any mistake is my fault.
